What's Next For Michael Vick?

You may have seen the news that Michael Vick has been released from prison, and that The Humane Society of the United States is going to provide an opportunity for him to get involved in some of our anti-dogfighting outreach programs. Animal advocates might be skeptical, as I was, about whether a man who committed such horrible acts to dogs could do anything positive to help animals. But I want to give him the chance to be part of the solution, rather than part of the problem. If he is serious -- and we’ll soon find out -- then Vick can help HSUS reach young men in urban communities and tell his story about dogfighting being a dead end. Our on-the-street programs teach at-risk kids that pit bulls are friends, not fighters. I wanted to share with you my blog which I've just posted today, which elaborates on my thinking.

A new dog to the rescue needs our help!!

Jayne is unfortunately heartworm positive, has ulcers on each of her eyes, multiple skin and eye issues that require treatment. The estimate at Banfield was a little over $500 dollars and we want to start her treatment next week. Please chip in and help with Jayne's vet costs. Thank you!!

MACK NEEDS URGENT MEDICAL SPONSOR

Mack is the newest member of the Bully Bunch and comes to us with some urgent medical needs. Mack is heartworm positive and will require treatment. Mack also has several teeth that are missing or broken and the roots are exposed. Mack's teeth will need to be capped immediately due to the exposed nerves. HOLLAND, Mich. (WZZM)- A Holland woman has an unlikely hero to thank after breaking up a domestic fight. The 32-year-old's estranged husband beat her and attempted to abduct her from her safe house in Holland. The plan was foiled thanks to a dog which usually gets a bad rap. The fight between Steven Schumacher, 33, and his wife was very public. Witnesses say he beat and dragged his wife across the street, attempting to get her into his vehicle. But the fact the fight was public may have helped. That's how Blitz saw the events unfolding from his window, and 'blitzed' to the rescue. Judging by his barking through the window, we're presuming Blitz is no fan of cameras. Blitz is a two-year-old, hundred and something pound pit bull; yes, the kind many fear. "He'll protect us when we need it," says his owner. "But he's a great house pet, he's great with my kids, he's wonderful." Due to the nature of this tale Blitz's owner does not want to be known. She says close to 11:00p.m. Wednesday she heard screams for help. "It's still surreal," she says. "I haven't even slept yet, (I'm) still kind of shaken about what could have happened to her." She saw Schumacher beating and dragging his estranged wife. "(I was) scared of what could have happened to her, because he was close to getting her in his car." Blitz saw it too. "He about knocked me out of the door to get to them. I heard her screaming, 'help me', repeatedly and I came out my front door and my dog spilled past me and went and scared him a little bit." She says he never bit anyone, but scared Schumacher just enough that he loosened his grip on his wife, who then ran inside Blitz's home and waited for police. "He was still in the area, I believe in the front yard of the residence," says Captain Rick Walters of the Holland Police Department. "He was taken into custody without incident." Walters isn't sure how long the couple had been separated, but says they were living apart. "He went to that residence, broke into that residence and then confronted her and assaulted her in that residence," says Walters. What Schumacher's intentions were are still not known. Police say they did find a knife in Schumacher's pocket but do not think it was used during the attack. What is known though is the dog many fear, saw fear, and became a hero. "It's hard to tell what may or may not have happened if not for that dog," says Walters. "I'm very proud of him," chimed in his owner. "He would never do anything unless the situation was like that when he feels that we're in danger." Anyone with more information is asked to call Holland Police or Silent Observer at (616) 355-1150.

Pet Fest was a huge success made possible by all the volunteers who helped out all weekend. The NCIS 9 were a hit, the puppies worked very hard for their own donations over the weekend too with the "Donate a Buck, Hold A Pup". The money raised will go to the puppies and the many more trips to the vet!! The NCIS 9 just turned 7 weeks old and they are looking for some foster homes!! NOBBR provides everything you need to foster, all we ask is that you open your home!! NOBBR also offers a Foster-To-Adopt program that allows you to foster a dog until it is available for adoption. NOBBR requires approval of adoption contract, phone interview, multiple references, and a home visit to complete an adoption. The adoption fee for dogs under 6 months of age is $250. Luca is feeling so much better these days after heart worm treatment and some TLC on his teeth. Luca has been neutered and micro chipped and is awaiting his forever home. Luca is great with children and small dogs, but is terrified of large dogs. Luca's foster home is introducing him to large dogs slowly and will continue to work with his training. Snowflake suprised us early this morning with 9 puppies. The whelping process went very good and she did a wonderful job. Between midnight and 4 a.m. she had 6 boys and 3 girls.

We called this pup Snowflake Jr because the marking are identical to Mommy.

Snowflake was extremely happy to get all those pups out!

Snowflake and her pups will require many more trips to the vet, please help them by sponsoring them. Snowflake will also be treated for heartworms once the puppies have been weened.

Snowflake was an unexpected addition to the NOBBR family. Snowflake was in the shelter as a stray, a couple weeks later she started showing signs of pregnancy. The shelter wanted Snowflake to have a nice home to raise her puppies in. Thanks to our super foster mommy (and soon to be g-ma) Kellye, Snowflake now has her own room and everything she needs to be a mommy! HOW COOL is this, today Snowflake visited the vet for a check up, this is an x-ray of her belly full of pups. The doctor says she is doing great and he can see at least 8 babies in there maybe more!! Luca is the newest member of NOBBR. Luca was found as a stray and nobody ever claimed him, after we met him we knew he was an ambassador for his breed. After we got Luca to the vet we got the news that his teeth have been filed in places and there were signs that he had been injected with steroids. Luca also tested HEARTWORM POSITIVE. Luca may have been through a lot but he welcomes new people with a wiggle butt and lots of kisses and gets so excited when with his bully roommates. NOBBR is collecting donations for Luca's heartworm treatment, it is extremely expensive and sponsors are desperately needed!!

Bo, Mo, and Flo have arrived in their foster homes and are loving life!! Our vet estimates them to be about 12 weeks old. Flo (short for Florence, where they were born) is the only chic and she is very mellow and loves to cuddle. Bo is a big boy and loves to play with his toys and eat A LOT! Mo is the runt of them family and became very sick in the shelter and lost a lot of weight. Mo got some good stuff from the vet and is on a special diet to put the weight back on, he is a true fighter and you could never tell that he isn't feeling well. Bulldog Puppies Incoming!!!

We have 3 puppies incoming from an upstate shelter, there are 2 boys and 1 girl. These pups are about 8-9 weeks old and the shelter is saying the are bulldog mixes, we will know more as they grow older. NOBBR is looking for some foster homes for these pups until they are old enough for adoption.

NOBBR just wanted to wish everyone a Happy New Year!! Last year was so amazing for NOBBR, we rescued so many dogs from all over the state and even some from out of SC!! 2008 could not have been a success without our amazing volunteers who spend countless hours helping our dogs. My husband and I fell truly blessed to have a wonderful group of people supporting us and our organization, you all are truly the heart and soul of this organization and we couldn't be here without you helping to save lives everday!!

NOBBR will be making some changes to the website for the New Year and we always welcome our adopters, foster homes, volunteers, and many other supporters to check out whats going on and even stop by an event, we would love to catch up with you!!

What to look forward to in 2009...

NOBBR is currently raising money ($300) for our 501 (c)(3) application for the IRS, to federally recognize us as a tax exempt organization. Once we have be approved all donation's dating back to the date of our incorporation (January 24th, 2008) will be tax deductible!! This is a big step for non-profits and opens up many doors for the dogs in our program. If you would like to donate please use our paypal link and mark your donation "501(c)(3)".

NOBBR also has some big events planned for 2009 and we will keep everyone updated when we have more information.

THANK YOU to everyone who dropped off toys and donations in the month of December at our events. NOBBR also recieved some amazing presents in the mail as well as some amazing sponsors for our dogs!!

LOOK at our new fancy smancy doggy treadmill that was donated!! NOBBR also got a giant crate, some yummy treats, dog bowls, and much more with the treadmill. This will be great for the dogs who require some additional exercise and we have a weight pull harness for more fun fun fun.

This was a puppy pack that was donated for Kermit and Diego with some nice warm beds and some fun interactive toys. Thank you again to those who stepped up and helped make the holidays so great for our dogs!!

NOBBR was at All Is Well in Summerville on December 20th, we had such a great time!! We also got to hang out with a member from the K9 Care Unit and she was passing out info on "Trot for the Cure" which is an annual fundraiser for canine cancer research held at beautiful and historic Magnolia Gardens near Charleston, S.C on January 11th 2009. NOBBR volunteers signed up and will be walking with some of our ADOPT-A-BULLS for a wonderful cause!!

Lulu made her debut, isn't she beautiful!! This is event was Lulu's first and last because she met Jeremy and Rebecca who fell in love and gave her a forever home!!

These three pups were found in horrible conditions in Mount Pleasant and they were only 6-8 weeks old. A good samaritan picked them up and took them straight to the vet and gave them a clean bill of health, they called around several local animal shelters and were directed to NOBBR. My name is Diego and I refused to spend turkey day in the shelter so here I am!! I am a super sweet boy with a non-stop wiggle butt. I enjoy the company of other dogs and children. I am on a special diet right now to gain some weight and it is yummy!! While I spend some time with my new foster parents they continue to teach me new tricks, I already know how to sit and lay down. Lulu was found in the median of Highway 25 in Travelers Rest SC with a bag of food and a bowl of water. She appears to be young 1-1 1/2 years old. Lulu does great with others dogs and children but seems overly interested in cats. Lulu is a total sweetheart and is a petite girls only weighing 35 pounds. **TIDO**
My name is Tido and I am a hunk of burning love!! For most of my life I was confined to a small space at the shelter so I am adjusting to my crate and learning some manners. I am extremely clumsy and so full of energy that I would not do well with small animals or children. The more room I have to play the better because I love to play fetch and Frisbee, my dream is to go to agility class to show my stuff off. The Bully Bus Has Made Some Special Drop Offs

NOBBR has some wonderful updates!! We have had several adoptions that have been finalized and several new dogs looking for a home for the holiday!!

**MISSY**

NOBBR helped place Missy in her new home back in February and received an update on her from her new home!!
Missy is doing great! and has from day one. She recovered nicely from her heartworm treatments, and fit right in with our other canine companions (Mikey, 1-1/2 yr.-old AmStaff, Little Bit, 2-yr. old miniature Chihuahua, and Gryphon, 13-yr. old blind Lhasa). Missy is absolutely the most loving, obedient, deferential and humble friend in the pack. She and Mikey are running and tumbling friends, and Missy mothers Little Bit. She is still a big "licker" and greets any and all who come in the door with affection and "kisses". We love her, and wouldn't change a single thing about her. Also Sadie, Skyla, Rachel, and Xena (re-named Jada) have all been adopted!!

Bubba and Speck have applications pending and are in the final stages!!

**Sadie and Rachel were adopted by their foster homes, which happens a lot in the rescue world. We are so happy that everyone has found great homes but we are now left with a shortage of foster homes!!

NOBBR is in dire need of foster homes for puppies and adults that we have waiting in several shelters in the state. Fostering for NOBBR is completely FREE!! We provide quality food/treats, toys, crates, bedding, collars/leashes, vet care, and monthly flea/heartworm preventative. I hope everyone had a Happy Turkey Day!! Nobles Ones Bully Breed Rescue is so thankful for the selfless acts of all our volunteers and all of the local area businesses who support us!! It has been a truly amazing year, and the past couple months we have been very very busy. NOBBR has a couple things to look for in the new year:

Noble Ones Bully Breed Rescue Launches Meet Your Match® Canine-ality™ Adoption Program!!

Are you a "purple," "orange," or "green"? Come "meet your match" at our local Meet and Greet's and find out what color suits you best!
Come meet our ADOPT-A-BULLS and learn more about the program that matches a dog's "canine-ality" with your expectations and lifestyle, creating a friend for life!!

NOBBR is also in the process of applying for our 501(c)(3) to federally recognize us as a tax exempt organization. Once we have be approved all donation's dating back to the date of our incorporation (January 24th, 2008) will be tax deductable!!

NOBBR is also re-designing our website, we wanted to make a website that is user friendly and caters to all bully lovers!! We expect our website to be completed in the beginning of 2009.

NOBBR is working with several area businesses to plan some big events for 2009. We are currently working on a car show for 2009!!

We are in need of volunteers to help us reach our goals for 2009!! There are so many ways to volunteer and it can be done in as little as an hour a week. Please also consider fostering for NOBBR. Fostering is a great alternative for college students and military members who may not be able to make a lifetime commitment to a pet. Fostering for NOBBR is completely FREE, we supply quality food/treats, crates, vet care, heartworm/flea prevention, and much more!! Hogan Update!!

Hogan's new mommy, Sara sent us some new pictures of Hogan. Sara says that Hogan has been spending lots of time downtown meeting people and loves it. Sara also says that evryone that meets him falls in love, I know what a charmer that boy is!! We wish Hogan and Sara the best in the future and thank you for saving a life!!

We have been so busy the past couple weeks with new bully's coming in, adoptions, new foster homes, and some great new volunteer's stepping up to help us out!! On October 25th NOBBR was at Paws in the Park and we had a great time and made some new friends!! Please look for pictures from the event which will be up soon. Whitey, Hazel, and Hogan's adoption were finalized and we have a couple more pending!! Here are some pictures of our newbi's...

This is Xena and she is our new warrior princess!! Xena is about 9 months old and is a total sweetheart. Xena loves to be around other dogs and is a petite little girl who weighs about 35 pounds with a beautiful blue and white coat. Xena is currently looking for a foster home that has other dog friends for her to play with.

Tido is our handsome red nose boy who has tons of energy and loves to play fetch!! Tido weighs around 45 pounds and is about a year old. Tido is a high energy dog who would excel at agility, we are currently looking in to getting him enrolled in an agility class!!

Lulu is about 1-2 years old and is a sweet little girl. Lulu is a little staffie who weighs about 35 pounds. Lulu was rescued by a wonderful couple who took her in. She had been staying at a Greenville vet's office helping out at the front desk and looking for a new home!! We are moving her to Charleston in hopes of finding her a fur-ever home!!

Foster Homes Desperately Needed!!

NOBBR has been working with several other rescues over the east coast to find these dogs new homes. NOBBR is willing to transport these dogs from there current location to Charleston!! We are in desperate need of foster homes so we can help as many of these dogs as possible, if you are intrested in fostering one of these dogs please email us NobleOnesBBR@yahoo.com. All of these dogs are UTD on all vaccinations and spayed/neutered. NOBBR provides vet care, food, crate, and all supplies needed. All we ask is that you open your heart and home to a bully in need!!

"Paws in the Park" October 25th

On Saturday October 25th Noble Ones Bully Breed Rescue will be at “Paws in the Park” from 1030-3 at Park Circle in N. Charleston. This event is our biggest event of the year and is sponsored by our friends at Charleston Animal Society. NOBBR will have a big booth and tent set up on “Rescue Row” and all of our adoptable dogs will be there.

The Event “Paws in the Park” and Dog Walk for the Animals is an all-day event featuring walk for the animals, games and activities for the entire family and their pets. The event will be held on Saturday, October 25th, 2008 from 10:30am-3pm. at beautiful Park Circle in North Charleston. An estimated crowd of 1,000 furry friends and their pet parents will enjoy…\Animal Fun Stations \Agility Courses \Obedience Classes \ Best Dressed Pet\ Best of Mixed Breed Dog Show \Pet/Owner Look-A-Like Contest\Doggie Putt-Putt \Doggie Demonstrations \Animal Care Education Booths\Rescue Row\Pet Supply Vendors \Food Vendors \Best Tail-Wagger \Best Kisser \Goofy Pet Tricks and more! Participants will also be collecting donations to benefit the Charleston Animal Society for our “Dog Walk for the Animals”.

Take I-526 (Mark Clark Expressway) to exit #19 and go south on Rhett Avenue for about 1.2 kilometers, and you will be at Park Circle.

Charleston Air Force Base Pet Fest 2008

On Saturday September 27th we attended CAFB Pet Fest 2008!! NOBBR wanted to say a big thank you to all the military personnel and families who volunteer their time with us and open up their homes to foster for us.

NOBBR shows off our event table with our new homemade tablecloth and lots of educational info!!

Whitey and Speck playing in the puppy play pen, which only lasted a few minutes because they had so many visitors.

Cookie and Achilles make the best foster Mom and Dad for NOBBR!! One BIG happy bully family!!

Speck met so many new friends he didn't even make it till the end of the event!!

My Three Dogs "Halloween Bash" 10/18

Our bully bunch had so much fun at My Three Dogs!! There was such a great turn out with people and their dogs all dressed up!! The dogs loved all the cake and treats except maybe the funny costumes and the bunch got to meet all new friends. NOBBR will be doing lots more events at My Three Dogs, Kris and her staff have a beautiful indoor/outdoor facility that is completely cage-less and a staff that is extremely friendly and knowledgeable. NOBLE ONES BULLY BREED RESCUE is a non-profit organization incorporated under the laws of South Carolina on January 24th, 2008. NOBBR caters to "Bully Breeds" also known as the American Pit Bull Terrier (APBT), American Staffordshire terrier (Am Staff), American Bulldog, Staffordshire bull terrier (Staffie), and more. We are a rescue dedicated to the rehabilitation and re-homing of abandoned, stray, and neglected bully breed dogs.

NOBBR has been extremely busy in 2008 rescuing bullies from all over and finding them fur-ever homes. We have an amazing group of motivated volunteers who are the heart and soul of our organization. NOBBR hopes to inspire and educate more people in our community and around the world to join forces to help our noble cause.
